Sony Pictures' "Gran Turismo" is coming to theaters on August 11, 2023 and the new teaser has been released! The short video gives us a sneak peek of what to expect from the film. It includes race footage from recent sports car prototypes and Gran Turismo cars. Director Neill Blomkamp is aiming for a more realistic feel than the "Need for Speed" movie (2014).
For those who are unfamiliar with the movie's plot, it revolves around Sony's "Gran Turismo" video game series and its competition with Nissan called GT Academy. The competition was held between 2008 and 2016, challenging gamers to become a Nissan factory driver. Many young drivers in identical racing overalls and a number of Nissan GT-Rs can be seen in the trailer.
Jann Mardenborough won the 2011 GT Academy at age 19 and went on to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2013 with Lucas Ordoñez. He returned to Le Mans in 2015, driving the Nissan GT-R LM Nismo prototype. Unfortunately, the car was unreliable and uncompetitive and thus Mardenborough and his co-drivers failed to finish. This ended up being the car's only race and Mardenborough's highest profile career moment. Sadly, it's not exactly the Hollywood ending we were hoping for!r
